Measure twice, art once?
I have an idea for a piece, well, it's slowly turning into a series of pieces. (that's all I can say about it right now!)
I need a bit of help with building a support for the piece - so I sent my dad a website, and commissioned him to help out with that part. What I failed to do, is double check the measurements that I gave him. Now, my dad, being my dad, knows me well enough to know that I'm not the best at measuring when it's not a 1/4" or 1/2" - a measurement like that! So, as is his way, he didn't believe me, and told me that he would come get the parts that I had to give to him for making the frame and measure them himself! This is a good thing overall, as I pulled out the parts, and lo and behold, (don't laugh!) I gave him the wrong measurements! Poor guy, thankfully he knows me well enough to expect this!
That said, all my planning drawings were then incorrect because I based my piece on the measurements that I gave him of said parts. Needless to say, last night I went back to the drawing board - literally - and started messing around with my drawings. After a couple minutes, I thought about things, and decided to photograph my drawing and see if I could make changes using some technological help.
I uploaded my photo to my computer and ended up reworking part of it that way. I still need to redo the drawings, but I was able to use the technology to save me a bit of time and lower my stress since I was able to make some adjustments to the drawings that way. I will admit, I did not use Photoshop or Illustrator as I really botch things up when I try to use them - I used what I know would work for what I needed to do!
With that extra time that I was able to save using the computer to help me out - I was able to finish sorting and repacking all the glass that I brought home from my classroom that needed to be sorted for the next time I teach my glass class. I was able to also do some research on what to do with small shards and smaller pieces that are too small for mosaics but too big to just throw away - waste not, want not, right?
All in all, all's well that ends well. Hopefully my piece works, and I can get moving forward once I finish the drawings, again! Haha!
